Veteran-owned aging-in-place technology company wins a StreetShares Foundation January small business award
Rockville, MD (January 24, 2017) — BlueStar HonorCare, a veteran-owned-and-operated aging-in-place technology company, announced today that it is a recipient of the StreetShares Foundation January 2017 Veteran Small Business Award. StreetShares Foundation and JP Morgan Chase partnered to award veteran-owned businesses like BlueStar and two other veteran-owned small businesses $10,000 in cash prizes. Bluestar plans to give the $2,000 award it received directly back to the veteran community. The company will award 20 $100 scholarships to deserving WWII and Korean War veterans.
Seventy-one businesses directly involved with the military community applied to receive the small business award; the Foundation selected 10 finalists based on a scaled score, considering the entrepreneurs’ business idea, product-market fit, use of funds, team, and influence on the military community. BlueStar HonorCare and two other businesses were chosen in a public vote as the January winners.
“The StreetShares Foundation is an exceptional ally of veterans and veteran-owned small businesses. BlueStar is honored and humbled to have won one of three of the Foundation’s January veteran small business awards among many outstanding veteran-owned businesses,” said BlueStar HonorCare CEO Rear Admiral Robert O. Wray, Jr. (ret.).”
StreetShares Foundation Awards are given monthly to veteran, current reserve, active duty members and qualified military spouses business owners. The StreetShares membership community brings together business owners in search of funding and investors looking for both financial and social returns. The founding team at StreetShares had one vision: to breathe new life into the American Dream.
“We’re honored to provide educational resources and financial support to inspirational entrepreneurs like BlueStar HonorCare’s Admiral Wray,” said Mark L. Rockefeller, Director of the StreetShares Foundation. “Our January award winners have truly given back to the veteran community and continue to improve the lives of veterans and their families each and every day.”
Founded in 2013, BlueStar HonorCare set out on a mission to help America’s aging veterans and their family members maintain health, safety, and independence. The company is veteran-owned and is a certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB). BlueStar is committed to hiring veterans, including disabled and wounded soldiers, and it sets aside a percentage of revenues that it donates to veteran-related causes.
The StreetShares Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliated with StreetShares, Inc., the social finance solution for the military community. The mission of the Foundation is to inspire, educate and support veterans’ business ownership in America.
