It doesn’t matter how old your father gets: He wants tools or technology for Father’s Day. Although that one-handed cordless band saw might be a little extreme, there are plenty of innovative tech gifts and tools you can get that will not only impress the dad in your life but will keep him safe, too.

Here are three gadgets that will make the perfect Father’s Day present for the dad or granddad in your life.

Brain Fitness Software

You know Dad needs 30 minutes of exercise every day, but did you know that his brain needs a workout, too? Researchers at UCLA found that older adults who regularly used a brain-fitness program on a computer demonstrated significantly improved memory and language skills. BrainHQ is a web-based software that trains the brain in six specific areas to help improve memory, focus attention, increase brain speed, enhance people skills, tune-up navigation and sharpen intelligence.

Stove Circuit Interrupter

Every four and a half minutes a range fire ignites, causing more than 5,000 injuries per year and costing hundreds of millions in damage. There is always smoke before a fire, which is why FireAvert, a stove and range circuit interrupter, is activated by the smoke alarm, cutting the power to the stove and oven before there is a flame. If your dad wasn’t the best cook when you were growing up, makes sure he doesn’t burn the house down the next time he tries to get creative in the kitchen.

Hearing-impaired Phone

If your father is always asking you to repeat yourself when you call to tell him about his grandkid’s first words but he refuses to get a hearing aid, you’re not alone. Approximately one in three people between the ages of 65 and 74 has hearing loss, and nearly half of those older than 75 have difficulty hearing. For many seniors, admitting they’re losing their hearing is embarrassing — but it doesn’t have to be. With a hearing-impaired phone, captions of everything you say appear on an extremely large display screen to help make sure he catches every word.
